The development of the biosciences sector counts on strong regional and political support and involves an array of stakeholders working together around a network and cooperation philosophy.
This collaborative functioning is fostered by the BioBasque Agency, the entity that represents BioBasque and the instrument created to implement the BioBasque 2010 strategy. It is also a one-stop shop for information and a catalyst for the improvement of the framework where the biosciences sector is growing.
In practice, the main tasks of the Agency include:
Co-ordination of actors involved in biosciences, including research organisations, Innovation System, and public administration.
Advice for the Basque Government on questions related to biosciences.
Advice on the allocation of funds.
Provision of information on the biosciences sector in the Basque Country.
Orientation of existing business diversifying towards the biosciences.
Internal and external marketing of bioscience activities (business, scientific) within BioBasque.
Supra-regional cooperation.
The BioBasque Agency belongs to the Basque Development Agency (Sociedad para la Promoción Industrial - SPRI), a public company dependent on the Basque Government (Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism).
