The Basque company Progenika, specialised in personalised medicine, is currently involved in 50 research projects, out of which 40 are international. This figure confirms the company's commitment to research in close collaboration with other companies, institutions, universities, etc. for the development of new products used to improve diagnosis, prognosis and predictions on the treatment response of human diseases.
These research and development projects are promoted by different public institutions as the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology, the Basque Government, in addition to the European Commission and other European bodies. Progenika leads 20% of these projects.
Among the 10 projects on personalised medicine led by Progenika, those dedicated to multiple sclerosis and diabetes are particularly relevant, as well as those devoted to the implementation of genetics and proteomics to clinical diagnosis and the improvement of molecular identification of different blood groups.
Progenika collaborates with national public health systems, hospitals, universities, technology centres, laboratories and other companies. The company works on the development of new technologies for their application in personalised medicine, researching diseases with great social impact, such as depression, schizophrenia or breast cancer.
Progenika develops biochips for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and to predict the patients' treatment response. Several private and public health systems already use many biochips developed by Progenika such as LIPOchip (for the diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolaemia) and BLOODchip (to confirm blood transfusion compatibilty).
