A&B Laboratorios, a company concerned with the design, manufacture and marketing of chemical and biological products, has recently launched a range of new domestic cleaning and disinfection products, namely Befreehome, with no chemical or environmental risk. These products will be sold via a web page created for this purpose (ab-befreehome.com).

This product range includes multi-use cleaners, absorbent hydrogels, environmental purifiers, disinfectants and ecological bathroom cleaners. However, the most notable and common characteristic of all these domestic products is their biotechnological origin as they all contain microbial components such as enzymes.

These biological components, which decompose dirt, replace more traditional chemical agents, which are more toxic for both users and the environment, in the new cleaning and disinfection products.

A similar biotechnological approach is also followed to produce the industrial products, which include both enzymes and microorganisms. Thus, enzymes pre-degrade the dirt, thereby facilitating the biological cleaning process undertaken by microorganisms. The microorganisms used are isolated from natural sources and chosen due to their high capacity to degrade organic waste. For industrial use, they are produced at the company's site following a process that ensures the highest possible activity of the microorganism when the product is applied.

This biological activity finally results in integration of the waste into the natural cycle, thereby avoiding the need to physically move it and therefore the environmental impact associated with such a process.

The company has recently been awarded two honourable mentions in the Management and Product categories of the Basque Country section of the European Business Awards for the Environment.
