Drs. Anitua and Sanchez
attending the CIO meeting
On 27 and 28 May, the doctors Eduardo Anitua and Mikel Sánchez attended a meeting organised by the International International Olympic Committee (COI) in Lausanne (Switzerland) to come to an agreement on the use of platelet-rich plasma in sports, an application with increasing interest and very promising results.
The meeting was attended by around twenty renowned experts in different fields such as orthopaedic surgery or sports medicine. It focused on the definition of application guidelines for plasma growth factors and their potential use in sports-related injuries.
Dr. Eduardo Anitua presented the results of several clinical trials (Randomized Controlled Trial, RCT) to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the treatment with platelet-rich plasma. Anitua, BTI's scientific director, has been working on the development of this 100% autologous technique for a decade, whereas Dr. Mikel Sanchez is an expert in its application in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine.
Likewise, both doctors gave the corresponding presentations regarding growth factors in the 14th Congress of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) held from 9 to 12 of June in Oslo (Norway).
