At Bio San Diego 2008, DRO Biosystems presents a revolutionary system to grow therapeutic cells

Dro biosystem

DRO Biosystems, a Basque biotherapeutic production and technological development company, showcased its two business lines at Bio 2008, held in San Diego (USA) last June. On the one hand, it offers services to develop processes to produce biotherapeutic substances and, on the other hand, the SSB (Static Support Bed) technology used in different stages of the biopharmaceutical production process, including the production of cells for cellular therapies.

This latter application, of technology to cultivate cells, has aroused most interest among the companies on the cellular therapy markets. Companies with a significant share of the cell-cultivation appliance market, such as Millipore Corporation, have expressed their interest in acquiring SSB technology to incorporate into their products.

Fifteen Basque companies, led by the BioBasque Agency and which acted as the representatives of the nearly 70 organisations that make up the emerging Basque bioRegion, were at the event held in San Diego.

Founded in 2005, DRO Biosystems specialises in developing biotherapeutic substance production processes and technology to meet the demand of the biopharmaceutical and biotechnological sector. Its main business lines are developing GMP production processes and technology licences.

With an annual turnover of around one million euros, it has protected technology in 46 countries. Its most outstanding current projects are the development of SSB technology applications and the development of a therapeutic molecule production process that could be used to boost vaccines against tumour and viral diseases.
