The Basque biocompany Biobide took part, as a speaker, at the World Pharmaceutical Congress, held between 9 and 11 June last in Philadelphia (USA), invited by the organizer of the event, Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI). The Congress is a forum of international importance, at which the main companies, organisers and researchers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic field come together.
Carles Callol, scientific director of Biobide, presented a paper entitled “Validation of an Automated Screening Platform in Zebrafish” within the cycle “The Expanding Impact of New Animal Models in Drug Safety”. This is one of the three major issues that this edition of the congress has tackled, together with drug discovery innovation and pharmaceutical strategy.
Biobide is a pioneering company in the field of specialised biotechnology in the High Throughput Screening of new drugs, whose goal is to introduce a different service-screening concept into the market by using the zebrafish as a model organism. In order to do this, the company from Guipuzkoa has modern facilities, including a zebrafish fish tank housing up to 150,000 adult zebrafish.
