The Basque company Biobide presented its advances in "7th Annual Screening Europe", the biggest European conference on Biomolecular Screening, held in Barcelona on 11-12 February. The symposium gathered many biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and discussed the use of stem cells in the discovery of new drugs or new drug bioprocessing and bioproduction, among other issues.
In this framework, Biobide presented its expertise in drug testing using the zebrafish as animal model. Mr. Carles Callol, Director of Biobide's Scientific Department, talked about the "Automated Screening Platform using Zebrafish as Animal Model and Platform Validation".
In his presentation, Callol expounded on the main features of this platform, which was specially designed for zebrafish embryos, and its validation programmes supporting its use in research related to the safety of new molecules or compounds.
Biobide is a pioneering biotechnology company expert in new drug automated massive testing. It targets to market a different testing concept using the zebrafish animal model. Biobide’s headquarters are located at Parque Tecnológico de San Sebastián which boast of a tank housing with 150,000 fish capacity. The company provides pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies worldwide with preclinical assessment services for new cancer-related compounds.
Moreover, it is member of the Managing Council of the DareNET Network, the Spanish Technological Platform promoting the use of the Zebrafish (Danio rerio) animal model.
