The company DRO Biosystems has signed an agreement with the Chilean firm Ayslab to distribute its services related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes and therefore to support the strengthening of biotechnology capabilities in Chile. In all, between 10 and 20 companies will benefit from this agreement through the development of projects of different sizes with an estimated annual turnover of one million euros.
The collaboration between both companies started in 2009, when a Chilean market research mission approached the Basque and Spanish sectors and selected DRO Biosystems as the most suitable candidate to support biotechnology development in Chile.
DRO Biosystems develops technology for the production of biotherapeuticals as well as devices for the production and purification of those substances. Thus, it meets the demand of biotech companies, pharmaceutical laboratories and university research groups through manufacturing contracts and development and transfer of manufacturing processes.
DRO's General Manager, Marcos Simón, states that the aim of this agreement is to provide Chilean companies with the "technological capability to meet the Chilean demands regarding biopharmaceuticals development and industrial scaling of manufacturing processes".
Concerning the action plans foreseen in the collaboration agreement, DRO Biosystems will be soon involved in the start-up team of a process development centre in this Latin American country. On the other hand, it is currently moving forward in many projects related to veterinary vaccines, a well-developed market in the South American country, and preliminary agreements are foreseen to be signed soon.
