

The Basque pharmaceutical company Faes Farma has entered into the diabetes market after reaching a comarketing agreement with MSD, trade mark of Merck & Co., Inc., Inc., based in Whitehouse Station, (New Jersey, US), to commercialize the antidiabetic sitagliptine and its combination with metformine, in Spain.
Sitagliptine is a new molecule developed by MSD, the second-largest pharmaceutical company in the world , aimed to treat diabetes mellitus type II. Sitagliptine and sitagliptine/metformine help to increase the body reaction to reduce the high levels of blood glucose.
This agreement lets Faes enter into a big market, with a prevalence that has been doubled in the last five years. The solid commercial expertise of Faes in the Spanish market will help to properly achieve the goals, offering an innovative product which helps diabetic patients to successfully control the glycemia.
Early this year Faes Farma also got from MSD the exclusive marketing rights for the anti-inflammatory product etoricoxib for Spain.
