Genetadi Biotech research team

The Basque company Genetadi Biotech has inaugurated its new premises in Building 502 at the Bizkaia Technology Park, with a total surface of 400 m2 equipped with cutting-edge technology for human genetic analysis and diagnosis. With an overall expenditure of two million euro and a staff of 14 people (80% women and 50% PhD), Genetadi becomes a benchmark in human genetics in Spain.

The R&D&I Department in Genetadi Biotech involves five scientific areas (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics) using front line technology for genetic analysis and genomic medicine.

Among the most relevant technological advances in Genetadi Biotech there are two particularly outstanding products that provide a major quality improvement in human genetic diagnosis. Amniochip is a prenatal diagnosis method with a hundredfold increased sensitivity than that of common diagnostic methods which detects prenatal anomalies, especially in idiopathic mental retardation of unknown aetiology. The results are delivered in 48 hours and it is cost-effective thanks to its ability to analyse 8 samples at the same time.

Neonatal-One is an extended newborn screening test using fresh blood. It comprises an expanded heel prick test and can detect up to 56 different diseases, in contrast with the six disorders currently detected by the traditional methods implemented by the Health Services in the different Autonomous Communities. The test is done 48 hours after birth and results are delivered in 24 hours.

All Genetadi Biotech’s processes are supervised by a scientific committee made up of eight skilled experts and have the scientific support of different European Scientific Associations.
