  • CIC bioGUNE opens new lab for prion disease research

  • The Prion Lab of the Proteomics Research Unit belonging the Centre for Cooperative Research in Biosciences - CIC bioGUNE, has been recently inaugurated and is located in Building No. 502 in the Bizkaia Technology Park. The laboratory is committed to a thorough study of transmissible spongiform encephalopaties (TSEs), like the so-called mad-cow disease, among others.

  • IDOKI presents new SFE-derived products

  • The Basque company IDOKI SCF Technologies, located in the Bizkaia Technology Park, has released a new range of products for pharmaceutical use derived from its research studies on supercritical fluid technology. IDOKI’s processes mainly focus on the identification of active principles in natural raw materials. Once these target compounds are selected, IDOKI outlines the technological process to extract them from top quality raw materials, purify them and incorporate them in standard or new formulations.

  • Donostia Hospital co-authors a paper on dementia in Nature Genetics

  • Researchers from the Donostia Hospital from San Sebastián have been involved in the international study that has identified a genetic factor in frontotemporal dementia unknown until now. This neurodegenerative disease comprises 20% of all types of dementia and affects 1-2% of the population over 65 years. The study, which could help to delay or minimise the disease, has involved more than 100 centres from 20 countries and has been published in the Nature Genetics scientific journal.

  • CIC biomaGUNE’s researchers launch breast cancer diagnostic method

  • Researchers from the Centre for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials (CIC biomaGUNE) have developed the STREM (Stress Relaxation Microscopy) experimental methodology for complete mechanical characterisation of different biomaterials. The new method, whose description and preliminary application were published in the Journal of Biomechanics, may become a powerful detection and diagnostics tool for many diseases such as breast cancer.
