The Basque company Likuid Nanotek, manufacturing inorganic membranes for wastewater treatment and biosciences, will start up a new production plant by means of a capital increase of two million euro.
The overall financing comprises 1.5 million euro endorsed by Orza, 50% dependent on the provident societies Geroa and Elkarkidetza, committed to corporate share ownership; the remaining 0.5 million euro have been provided by the SPRI’s venture capital company. The project was also supported by BAN-Euskadi, a Business Angels’ Network providing entrepreneurs with valuable contacts and funding entities which can contribute with capital and business expertise.
This increase will promote the development of Likuid Nanotek’s strategic plan, which focuses on increasing its product portfolio, investing in internationalisation as well as implementing new facilities. Many foreign companies have already shown their interest in the manufactured membranes, as their use avoids pre-treatment stages, among other reasons.
Likuid Nanotek was founded in 2008 as a spin-off from CEIT-IK4 with the financial support of Bic Berrilan, Kutxa and the Basque Government. Last year, the company’s turnover accounted for 140,000 euro. The company is committed to the development and manufacturing of inorganic membranas to be used in effluent filtration, separation and concentration processes. Moreover, it has a Membrane autopsy laboratory for product & service guarantee to membrane users. Last but not least, it markets membrane cleaning and maintenance reagents for organic and inorganic membranes.
Likuid Nanotek’s products are a good option for several applications in biosciences, and therefore the company seeks to deploy its project in the fields of biopharmacy (cell culture feeding systems, protein and enzyme separation or bacteria and yeast selection processes), agro-food (dairy and beverages) and industry in general (pulp&paper, oil, etc.).
