The Basque bio-tech company Pharmakine, which is part of the Dominion group, attended the 12th National Congress of ASEICA (the Spanish Association for Cancer Research), which was held in Madrid in May. The company presented a poster of the most recent results obtained in its research for the development of a probe kit for the prognosis of hepatic metastasis in colorectal cancer. Pharmakine, from the Bizkaia Technology Park, also took part in the congress as an exhibitor company.

One of the main research areas at Pharmakine is in the search for new systems or technologies that can help with the prognosis of cancer metastasis. The promising results obtained by the researchers in this Basque bio-tech company in their work on colon cancer mean that they have been able to identify new markers associated with the apparition of metastasis in the liver.

The research team at Pharmakine has worked for over 15 years on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of a tumour micro-environment that regulate the process of the cancer’s metastasis, and they are world experts in the field of metastasis.
