The Basque company Proteomika and the Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences CIC bioGUNE collaborate with the pharmaceuticals Almirall, Esteve and Palau Pharma in the Neogenius project, a programme seeking to discover and develop biomarkers and new drugs for the treatment of pain in arthrosis patients.
Proteomika will participate in Biomarkers, of the two Neogenius sub-projects which aims to identify biomarkers enabling a better understanding of the arthrosis patients and, in the short and medium term, facilitating the design of diagnostic tools. The Basque biotech company will contribute to the project with its expertise in the use of proteomic tools and in the development of pain-related biomarkers.
The Neogenius project aligns with Proteomika's main commitment, i.e. the development of non-invasive diagnosis, prognosis and prediction/ or monitoring the response to pharmacological therapy of human diseases. Furthermore, it seeks the implementation of other products related to or derived from its research areas and associated know-how.
Proteomika, a subsidiary of the Progenika Group, focuses on the development and commercialisation of products for Personalised Medicine, a niche market that has become one of the Basque BioRegion's strongholds.
Neogenius has a four-year duration and a total budget of 15.4 million euros, a involves several SMEs and research organisations, and has received funds through the CENIT programme.
