The Basque technology corporation Tecnalia coordinates the European Project BIMOSYN whose main goal is the development of pesticides with reduced biocide concentration, thus being friendlier with human health and the environment.
The project investigates the degree of synergy between bioactive antioxidants (natural phenolic compounds such as anthocyanins) and conventional biocides against insects and fungi. The goal is to use natural vegetable extracts with potential for use as biocide adjuvants in the chemical sector, thus obtaining plague control products which are as effective as the conventional ones while not being harmful for human health and the environment. These new pesticides will help control plagues of flies, cockroaches, termites and fungi affecting wood.
Moreover, the project seeks the competitiveness of the resulting products from a commercial and business standpoint and the promotion of pesticides in the construction sector.
This two-year project coordinated by Tecnalia involves five companies: Berkem (France), Linotech (Sweden), Rutlandbio (United Kingdom), Quadrifolio (Portugal) and Dts-Oabe (Spain). These corporations will be responsible for the commercialisation of the final products.
