The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) will include a Degree in Biotechnology for the next academic year. This will be the first time that the Basque university offers degrees fully adapted to the European Space for Higher Education, similar to the process that postgraduate degrees underwent some years ago.
The Biotechnology Degree, framed within the Faculty of Science and Technology, is closely related to Biology and Biochemistry Degrees, with many shared courses.
This new Degree reflects the commitment of the University of the Basque Country to train Biotechnology professionals, since - in its own terms - this discipline "has undergone a spectacular development in the last years with similar future prospects".
The professional tasks within the Biotechnology Degree preferably comprise the design and analysis of bioprocesses oriented to the delivery of products, goods and services requested by society and the management and control of biotechnological processes in industrial-scale production plants. The framework for these activities mainly focuses on biobusinesses, although it also addresses other industries which are end-users of these applications.
